Masques et Miroirs

Masks and Mirrors

Brother, why wear this broken mask?
Why laugh at the chains others have forged?
In your gaze, I no longer see your reflection,
You blend into laughter that mocks and wounds us.

Their words, their jokes, are thorns,
And yet you hold them high as divine stars.
You trample those who resemble you,
For an empty smile, for trembling words.

At work, you echo their bitter voices,
You laugh with them, you forget your brothers.
But each burst of laughter, each word you speak,
Is a blade that cuts through our essence.

Do you know that in joking, you are the chain?
That your words bind you, that your soul fades?
By joining them, you reject your history,
And in their eyes, you are but a fleeting shadow.

So take off this mask, shatter this mirror,
Remember the ancestors, their glory.
For every word that betrays your people and your heart,
Is a wound you carry, an inner pain.
