The Shadows of Betrayal
Share Label
Why did you extend your hand,
To those who broke us at dawn?
Why, when they whispered promises,
Did you forget their tongues were full of false caresses?
You sold your brother, you betrayed your king,
For a handful of silver, for a look of feigned faith.
Their fight was for you, for all of us,
Yet you offered them to those who shroud us in rags and nails.
Those great voices, those leaders of ebony,
They walked ahead, proud, with barely a chain.
Their strength was our torch,
But you extinguished the flame for a false smile.
You betrayed Lumumba, Malcolm, Martin, Sankara,
Souls that dreamed of a brighter morning.
Hearts that beat for freedom,
Cut down by hands you led.
Your name echoes in the halls of time,
Not as a hero, but as a cold, heavy wind.
When they fell, their dreams were shattered,
And you stood there, contemplating the fruits of your sins.
It’s not too late to redeem your deeds,
To look at the stars and make a pact.
Swear before the night that you will be light,
That never again will you betray our brothers.
